Cyllene Therapeutics Successfully Raises Millions to Advance Genetic Medicine Candidate
The biotech, which was formerly known as EG 427, will use the funds raised in its Series C financing round to advance its lead precision genetic medicine candidate, EG110A.
French biotechnology company, Cyllene Therapeutics (formerly known as EG 427), has completed a successful Series C financing round. Co-led by new investors, GordonMD Global Investments and M Ventures, and with participation from existing investors, the company raised EUR 33 million (USD 38 million).
The monies raised in the financing round will be used to support the continued development of Cyllene Therapeutics’ lead precision genetic medicine candidate for severe chronic indications in neuro-urology, EG110A. Currently, the therapy is being studied in clinical trials to demonstrated efficacy and safety in patients with neurogenic detrusor overactivity associated with spinal cord injury (1).
The company plans to start a Phase IIb/III study with EG110A in 2027 to further evaluate dosing, safety, efficacy, and durability. Another separate five-year observational study will also be performed to assess long-term efficacy. Additionally, the company is seeking to expand its evaluation of EG110A into other indications, including overactive bladder (1).
“This financing marks a defining moment for our company as we continue advancing EG110A toward later-stage clinical development and in expanded indications, as well as broadening our pipeline of drug candidates emerging from our HERMES platform,” said Philippe Chambon, MD, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of Cyllene Tx, in a company press release (1). “Early clinical data generated to date with EG110A support our belief that localized, targeted DNA medicines can deliver durable efficacy with a strong safety profile in chronic neurological diseases. This financing will help us move further towards delivering this approach to more patients.”
“Cyllene Tx exemplifies the kind of bold, science-driven innovation for high unmet medical needs we seek to support at M Ventures,” added Björn Kuhl, Principal at M Ventures, in the press release (1). “The HERMES platform represents a fundamentally differentiated approach to genetic medicine — one with the potential to address multiple high-burden neurological diseases with precision and durability. We are delighted to co-lead this financing alongside GordonMD and to partner with the Cyllene Tx team as they advance EG110A toward pivotal clinical milestones.”
“The preliminary clinical results of EG110A support the application of precision therapeutics within neuro-urology,” commented Craig Gordon, MD, Managing Member of GordonMD, in the press release (1). “With this funding, the company is positioned for global expansion, extending its pipeline into major neurological indications, including pain and migraine.”
Furthermore, the raised funds will be used to expand the company’s HERMES non-replicating HSV-1 platform, which is honored with the new company name that references Mount Cyllene — the mythical birthplace of Hermes.
