Syntegon Expands Sepion Tablet Coater Series with Pilot-Scale Model

The new Sepion 75 supports flexible batch processing, closed material handling, and direct transfer of process parameters from pilot to commercial production.

German pharma and biotech partner, Syntegon, has expanded its oral solid dosage processing portfolio with the launch of Sepion 75, a pilot-scale tablet coater designed to help pharmaceutical manufacturers and CDMOs manage greater product diversity, smaller batch sizes and stricter containment requirements. The new model launch was announced by the company in an Aug. 19, 2026 press release (1).

Sepion 75 — which completes Syntegon’s Sepion coater series — utilizes two interchangeable drum sizes covering batch volumes from eight to 75 litres capable of processing batches ranging from 10% to 100% of its maximum working volume. The new machine features an optimized drum geometry and advanced spraying system designed to improve process air usage and shorten processing times, with an automatically adjustable spray arm maintaining the optimum spray position at different filling levels for consistent coating conditions.

“By extending the Sepion series to the pilot scale, we support pharmaceutical manufacturers in simplifying development and scale-up while maintaining consistent process principles across production stages,” said Fritz-Martin Scholz, Global Product Manager at Syntegon, in a company press release (1).

The company’s wider Sepion series includes six coater sizes with capacities ranging from 175 litres to 1,000 litres. The portfolio has been designed to provide consistent process principles across development, pilot, and commercial production to support reproducible coating results and process scale-up. Closed material handling is used across the Sepion series during filling, sampling, and discharge. Containment of up to occupational exposure band 5 (OEB5) is available as an option through features, such as split valves, safe-change filters, and extended cleaning configurations.

Additionally, the company provides lifecycle support covering process development, scale-up, qualification, modernization, and service activities, with a global service network to help customers maintain equipment performance and adapt manufacturing operations to changing market and regulatory requirements.
